Length of the program:35 hrs.
On completion of this course, the trainee should be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding of Leadership and Managerial Skills for working effectively at the Management level on board a ship as per the requirements of STCW 2010 Manila Amendments and Transport Canada TP 15337E. The knowledge, understanding and proficiency includes:
- How to effectively manage shipboard personnel and their training.
- How to effectively manage workload and stress and fatigue.
- Effective resource management and decision making.
Prerequisites:
Students must have a certificate of competency at least at the officer level (Nautical, Engineering or Electro-tech) and at least 6 months of sea service after acquiring a certificate of competency at the officer level. The sea time must be approved by Transport Canada prior to the course and submitted to the instructor on the first day.
